The Threads of Health in Effect

Science, formal education and lived experience unite to create whole-person health promotion. For 15 years I’ve dreamed of comprehensive coaching that avoids diet culture and gimmicky self-help solutions.

No matter your goals, we can build your way.

The Strategy.

  • Public Health meets Fitness

Fitness quickly became a focus because I’m most interested in the behaviors and systems that influence our well-being. The way we treat our bodies with movement and nutrition are the entryway for understanding deeper themes about self-acceptance. Our collective success is rooted in our individual health, so dedicating myself to supporting others became a natural conclusion. I utilize the Precaution Adoption Process Model (PAPM) and the Enneagram personality system as tools to guide the mental and emotional components of making change.

  • Your body, Our Health

I’ve struggled with the state of public health campaigns (in the US) and diet culture for the entirety of my career! And I’ll keep up the fight if it means just one more person finds their way. If I could impart two things, I would remind everyone that your health is interconnected to the individuals and world around you, and that physical aesthetic change only happens in partnership with mental and emotional health. Expect to move your body and explore the ways you use your mind.

My Experience

Health in Effect is a whole-person approach. It incorporates the physical, mental, emotional, social, environmental and other factors that influence a person’s well being, funneled through an evidence-based model of behavior change. That means more time spent enjoying life as you envision it.

As a freelancer, it can be difficult to highlight success. Here’s some professional accomplishments, and please reach out for a complete resume.

  • Health Educator for youth (500+ hours), volunteer coordinator, and mentor

  • Health Educator for community adults, presented over 200 hours

  • Public speaker at the Levi’s Leadership Summit (2016-2017) and EyesOpenIowa Conferences (2011-2012)

  • Founder of the Sexual Health Alliance of Linn & Johnson Co., acting president for 1 year (2011)

  • 30,000 hours as an individual fitness trainer (2012-present)

  • 10,000 hours as a group exercise instructor (2012-present)

  • 5,000 hours as an health coach for executives and startup business mentor with Next Level Coaching (2015-present). Examples include 6.5 years with the CMO of Levi’s, 2.5 years with an angel investor, and 3 years with a tech-startup founder

  • Over 500hrs training people with chronic illness (double-lung transplant recipient, boxing with people experiencing Parkinson’s, a swimming group for those managing cancer, etc)

  • Over 300hrs training professional athletes (women’s gymnastics, various races, Formula 1 racing, golf, and hockey among many other clients with specific training interests)

  • Helped over 20 women before, during and after pregnancies. Including supporting a few who were prescribed fitness as a fertility treatment (it worked in both cases!). One executive client who had 2 pregnancies after 40, trained for a triathlon and placed 1st in her age group. Her goal was to complete the event, and it became such a success for her.

  • So many beginners that I lost count! I’ve gone from completely unconditioned to working as a professional stunt performer, running and flipping for hours a day. I know what it takes to gain and re-gain fitness, and how much your mental state matters. If you have a goal, even if the slope is steep - we can build the plan to get you there. All I need is your determination!

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
